Employee Spotlight – Meet Dakota Clark
Meet Dakota, our Command & Control Engineer, who started as an intern last summer! Dakota discovered CloudFit's internship program through a career advisor while finishing college and looking to network. His journey from intern to full-time employee has been filled with highlights, invaluable skills, and a passion for working with our amazing team.
What motivated you to apply for our internship program, and how did you first hear about the opportunity?
Well, at the time, I was just finishing college and felt like I needed to start networking to keep my momentum going, especially in the job market we’re in now. I decided to reach out to the career advisor at my college and through working with them, I eventually got told about CloudFit’s program. If I’m honest, I wasn’t too picky going in, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much the company’s values resonated with my own.
What were some highlights about your experience as an intern at CloudFit last summer?
Hmmm, well, I’d say the whole thing was a highlight, but if I had to focus on a few aspects - the opportunity to work in a team with people who were all interested in tech and cybersecurity, getting feedback about what technologies I should be focused on learning about, and making the final presentation for our project at the end.
What skills or knowledge did you gain during your internship that you find most valuable in your full-time role?
Well, I’d say that learning about networking concepts, Linux basics, and presenting technically dense information to a less technical audience are all skills I’ve found useful that were honed during my time as an intern.
What was the transition like from being an intern to becoming a full-time employee?
I’d say the transition was pretty smooth.
What is your role at CloudFit Software?
I’m a Command & Control Engineer.
What’s your favorite part about working at CloudFit?
My favorite part about working at CloudFit is the people. I enjoy all the friendly and helpful individuals who work alongside me here at CloudFit
What advice would you give to new interns starting at CloudFit this year?
My piece of advice would be to not be afraid to ask questions or seem silly. This should be a learning experience for you, so make sure to take advantage of that by asking anything that crosses your mind. The people here are kind and usually willing to explain any particularly tricky concepts. Also, if you’re unsure of where you want to go in the tech field (if you’re interested in the tech field), get some one-on-one time with people here who are focused on different niches to get an idea of what working with certain technologies is like.
What do you like to do when you’re not at the office?
Well, whenever I’m motivated and have the energy, I like to make pixel art, compose music, play DnD, and other games. However, I’ve been focusing on my career a lot recently, so I’ve been focusing on studying for several certifications. I’ve got one more I want to go for this year, but I’m taking a bit of an intermission to relax my brain.
